Providing Orthodontic Services Since 2013
Having well-aligned teeth has many advantages, such as easier cleaning, clearer speech, a great looking smile, and better overall oral health. Watertown Pediatric Dentistry uses a non-extraction technique. We offer both fixed orthodontic braces and removable appliance options in treating phase 1 orthodontics and phase 2 orthodontics
We will perform a visual examination, take x-rays, and study bite models to provide you with a proper diagnosis. There are many conditions that can be treated with orthodontics, however some of the more common ones include:
This condition is where there’s a discrepancy between a pair of closed jaws, such as an overbite or an underbite.
When there’s insufficient space for teeth to grow it can be problematic for normal development of adult teeth.
Phase I Orthodontics
This type of treatment is done before all permanent teeth have erupted, which occurs between ages 6-10. This is usually recommended when there’s a moderate or severe issue that should be taken care of immediately. The main goal of this treatment is to correct overcrowding by making room for permanent teeth to erupt. Treatment time is between 9-18 months, after which the patient will wear retainers with subsequent appointments scheduled for every 4-6 months until the permanent teeth erupt. At this point, Phase II will be recommended
Phase II Orthodontics
This stage in the process will position the permanent teeth to maximize their function and appearance. Using full braces, this process will last between 12-18 month. Due to improvements made in Phase I treatment, patients will spend less time in full braces with fewer rubber bands and will not be required to wear headgear.
